We would like to welcome all pupils to year 6, their final year in Ysgol Craig Y Don. This is a year in which we consolidate all previous learning and encourage pupils to perform to the best of their ability in preparation for secondary school. Parental support with all homework activities, revision for weekly tests, reading and technology projects will be greatly appreciated. Please take advantage of any available time to practise times tables and mental arithmetic strategies with your child.
Throughout the year our theme for history will be World War 2.
AUTUMN TERM THEMES
Science – light and sound.
Geography – pollution and protecting the environment.
R.E. – The Creation and other creation stories/beliefs.
Technology: design and make a household item out of recycled materials.
SPRING TERM THEMES
Science – natural habitats and investigative science.
Geography – weather and climates.
R.E. – Anne Frank
SUMMER TERM THEMES
Science – space.
Geography – North America.
R.E. – Judaism.
Spellings will be given out on a Monday, to be learnt for the test on Friday. Some maths strategies will also be given on a Monday. Maths homework via the Mangahigh program will be set on a Tuesday and needs to be completed by Friday.
Pupils should read regularly at home and an adult should listen to them, then sign their reading record which will be submitted to the class teacher on Fridays.
Siabod – Thursdays and Fridays.
Wyddfa – Thursdays and Fridays.
Juniors will be responsible for their own money and fruit will be available to buy daily at a cost of 20p a day or £1 a week.
Dinner money should be brought in on a Monday or a Friday, in an envelope marked clearly with the child’s name, class name and the amount of money inside.
