CROESO/WELCOME

Welcome to our Year 5 & 6 page. Here you will find some useful information regarding our class topics, homework, online learning and our class routines. Parental support with all homework activities, revision for weekly spelling and times table tests and reading will be greatly appreciated.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • All stationery (pens, pencils etc.), will be provided in class.
  • Pupils will be provided with either a hook or a box to store their schoolbags and coats during the school day.
  • A reading record will be provided for all pupils.
  • Fruit Club – pupils in the fruit club will receive a whole piece of fruit every day, Monday – Friday. The cost is £1.50 per week payable via Parent Pay. Parents/carers can also pay in advance per term. The fruit will be distributed each morning by members of the School Council for each class. The School Councillors will have a list of the pupils that have paid for fruit. If your child is absent for any reason, they will receive additional fruit when they return to school. If you would like your child to be a member of the fruit club, please e-mail

Please ensure that:

  • At least one labelled water bottle is provided every day (even if your child is having school dinners)
  • All items of clothing, shoes and other belongings are labelled so that we can locate any lost property and return it to its owner.

PE

P.E. lessons will be held on:

Wyddfa – Wednesday & Friday

Tal y Fan – Wednesday & Friday

Siabod – Wednesday, Thursday  & Friday

We ask pupils to wear their P.E. kit to school on the above days please. There are also ‘Fitness Friday’ sessions and pupils are welcome to wear their P.E. kit on those days too.

ONLINE LEARNING AND HOMEWORK

Maths homework will be posted as assignments on Mangahigh each week and should be completed by the following week. These assignments will be based on the work covered in class during the week and it is important that pupils have at least 3 attempts at each assignment to maximise their potential and gain the most benefit from this resource. They will have the opportunity to have one attempt at each assignment during their time in class and they should build upon this with 2 more attempts at home.

Spellings need to be learnt at home each week, in preparation for Friday’s test and times tables should be revised on a regular basis.

SPELLING AND TIMES TABLES

Spelling, maths and times tables tests will take place every Friday morning. A new spelling pattern and list of words will be shared in the homework books and on Seesaw every Monday. We will introduce the spelling patterns in class on a Monday morning and then ask the pupils to practise the words at home during the week. In order for us to prepare the spellings for the following Monday, please ensure that your child returns their homework book to school every day. Thank you.

 READING

We aim to read a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts (including Welsh texts) in class over the year. Most reading will be done as a whole class or in small groups. Please aim to read on a regular basis with your child at home and to record any reading in the reading record provided. All staff at in the department endeavour to foster a love of reading in their classes and we look forward to working alongside you to support your child on their reading journey.

ONLINE LEARNING

Year 5 and 6 pupils will be provided with login information for the following online learning platforms/websites:

Hwb

Pupils are able to access a wide range of digital tools via their Hwb login e.g. Google Classroom. Google Classroom is an online class page that we use to share classroom tasks and useful website/video/document links. Through their Hwb account, the pupils can also download Office 365 and Minecraft for Education for free.

Mangahigh

Maths homework will be assigned on Mangahigh, however as well as completing the assigned activities, your child can explore the interactive games that are available at any time, to develop their numeracy skills and knowledge.

TT Rockstars

Times Tables Rock Stars is a fun and carefully sequenced programme of daily times tables practice. The website adapts to your child’s current knowledge and skills and helps them to progress and grow in confidence.

Reading Eggs

Reading Eggs is an online resource that can help to boost reading skills in a fun and engaging way.

Seesaw

We will be using Seesaw to share weekly photo updates, important announcements and some examples of the fun activities that are taking place in our classes. Seesaw will also be a form of contact between teachers and parents/carers. Parents/carers that were connected last academic year, should be automatically connected for this academic year. If there are any issues then please contact reception through email and this will then be passed onto the relevant class teacher.

School Dinners

The Government is now providing free school meals for ALL primary aged pupils. If you are on a low income it is important for you to still make an application for Free School Meals for your children regardless of the universal provision because the Free School Meal Benefit eligibility makes other benefits available to you. You can apply online at Free School Meals in Conwy County Borough.

Trip Payments and Fruit Club

All payments should be made online using Parentpay unless you have been otherwise informed.
