Welcome to our Year 4 page! Here you will find some useful information regarding our class topics and the skills that we’ll be focusing on this year. You can also find information relating to homework, online learning and our class routines. Parental support with all homework activities, revision for weekly spelling and times table tests and reading will be greatly appreciated. Remember to regularly check our school Twitter page as we will share any photos or videos on our school Twitter feed.

Diolch yn fawr.

General information
  • All stationery (pens, pencils etc) will be provided in class.
  • A reading record and book bag will be provided.
  • Every pupil will have their own box to store their belongings (coat, lunch bag and P.E. kit) in.
  • There isn’t a fruit club in the Juniors so your child will need to bring their own healthy (fruit or vegetable) snack to school for morning break times.

Please ensure that:

  • At least one labelled water bottle is provided every day (even if your child is having school dinners).
  • All items of clothing, shoes and other belongings are labelled so that we can locate any lost property and return it to its owner.

PE will be on Wednesdays.

*Covid-19 Update: Please can your child come to school wearing their PE kit with a jumper and tracksuit bottoms/leggings to keep warm if the weather is bad. They will stay in their PE kits for the whole day.

We are looking forward to delivering many of our lessons this term through the context of plants. Detailed information on the skills that we’ll be covering this summer term can be found in the letter emailed to Parents/Carers on 19.04.2021.

We are looking forward to delivering many of our lessons this term through the context of different cultural celebrations from around the world.

Online Learning and Homework

Pupil login details can be found in the homework books. Please let us know if you are new to the school and would like us to send some how-to guides to support you and your child at home. Further information regarding online learning and some useful links to websites can be found on our Online Learning page on our website.

Spelling and times tables

Spelling and times tables tests/fun challenges will take place every Friday morning. A new spelling pattern and list of words will be shared in the homework books every Monday. We will introduce the spelling patterns in class on Monday mornings and then ask the pupils to practise the words at home during the week. In order for us to prepare the spellings for the following Monday, please ensure that your child returns their homework book to school every Friday. Thank you.

Mathematics homework to support your childs’ learning in class will be assigned on Mangahigh (further details below).

We look forward to reading a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts (including Welsh texts) in class this year. Most reading will be done as a whole class/in small groups. Please aim to read on a regular basis with your child at home and to record any reading in the reading record provided. We ask all pupils to bring their book bag to school every day even if they haven’t finished their books. When your child is ready for a new reading book, we will aim to send a new one home as soon as possible.

Topic/cross-curricular homework

During the school year your child might be assigned a project based piece of homework where they will have the opportunity to decide how they would like to present their work. Information regarding creative projects will be shared in the homework book and on Google Classroom.

Year 4 pupils will be provided with login information for the following online learning platforms/websites:

Google Classroom

This is an online class page that we use to share classroom tasks and useful website/video/document links.

Purple Mash

Purple Mash is a child-friendly online resource packed with fantastic activities that support and enhance all areas of the curriculum.

Maths homework will be assigned on Mangahigh and each activity will link to the skills that have been developed in class. In the first term we will mainly be focusing on place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. As well as completing the assigned activities, your child can explore the interactive games that are available.

There are also many helpful Maths games available on Purple Mash and we regularly use a website called ‘Hit the Button’ to practise times tables, number bonds and doubling and halving.

TT Rockstars

We will assign specific times tables to practise on TTRockstars. Year 4 pupils will move on from the 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times tables to learning the 6, 7, 8 and 9 times tables. Times Tables Rock Stars is a fun and carefully sequenced programme of daily times tables practice.

Hwb is an online teaching and learning resource provided by the Welsh Government, offering access to a wide range of digital tools and materials for education in Wales. Through their Hwb account, the pupils can download Office 365 and Minecraft for Education for free. They can also access other child-friendly educational resources e.g. J2e.

This website is used to develop the pupils’ coding and debugging (problem solving) skills online. The pupils thoroughly enjoy the courses and they would love to share their skills with you at home.

School Dinners & Payment

The school meals follow our healthy eating food project guidelines. The present cost is £2.75 per day for Infants and Juniors.  Payment is via Parent Pay – all parents are issued with login details so that payment can be made on-line.

Thank you for taking the time to read our class page.
