Autumn Term 19

Our main topic this term is ‘Myself’. We will be learning about different parts of the human body and how to live a healthy and balanced life.

Mathematics

  • Place value
  • Number bonds to 10, 20 and 100

Maths homework will be set on Mangahigh (internet based). You will find a note and the log-in details in your child’s homework book when it has all been set up.

TTRockstars

Your child will be assigned times tables every week on the TTRockstars website. Please practise these times tables at home to support your child with their progress. We will be focusing on the 2, 5 and 10 times tables first and then the 3 and 4 times tables. The children will be asked the times tables in random order. TTRockstars is a fun and engaging website that will support your child with their learning and develop their confidence.

Log in details for Mangahigh, TTRockstars, Purple Mash and Google Classroom and further information can be found in your child’s homework book.

Literacy

Please read with your child on a regular basis and record any reading in their Reading Record. Further details on this can be found in the initial letter that we sent home and in the first letter in your child’s homework book.

Weekly spellings will be sent home and can be found in the homework books. Again, please refer to initial letters sent home for further information on this.

This term we will be focusing on:

  • Writing clear sentences and extending them by using conjunctions e.g. because
  • Spelling the first 200 High Frequency words
  • Descriptive writing
  • Finding answers in the text by looking for keywords and picture clues
  • Correcting sentences
  • Speaking clearly in front of the class and listening to others’ ideas

Science

We will be mainly focusing on:

  • Teeth
  • Bones
  • Healthy eating
  • The senses
  • Planning a fair test
  • Writing a clear prediction

Spring Term 18

Theme this term – Dydd a Nos (Day and Night)

In Maths we will be focusing on:

-2,3,4,5 and 10 times tables

-Doubling and halving e.g. Double 35

-Fractions e.g. Find ⅓ of 15

-Telling the time to the nearest 5 minutes (analogue and digital) e.g. quarter to 7 & 6:45pm

-Calculating durations of activities and how long it is to the next hour

  • To use different combinations of money to pay for items up to £2
  • To calculate change from £2
  • To order and compare items up to £10
  • To record money spent and saved

Literacy

Please continue to help your child to learn the spelling rules given out every week. At the start of the Spring term, we will be focusing in particular on plural rules e.g. y-ies. Details can be found in your child’s homework book and on their Google Classroom page.
