ONLINE LEARNING AND HOMEWORK
Pupil login details can be found in the homework books. Helpful information regarding the online platforms that we use can be found on the Online Learning page on our website – https://www.ysgolcraigydon.cymru/online-learning/
SPELLING AND TIMES TABLES
Spelling and times tables tests/fun challenges will take place every Friday morning. A new spelling pattern and list of words will be shared in the homework books and on Seesaw every Monday. We will introduce the spelling patterns in class on Monday mornings and then ask the pupils to practise the words at home during the week. In order for us to prepare the spellings for the following Monday, please ensure that your child returns their homework book to school every Friday. Thank you.
Mathematics and Numeracy homework to support your childs’ learning in class will be assigned on Mangahigh (further details below).
READING
We look forward to reading a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts (including Welsh texts) in class this year. Most reading will be done as a whole class/in small groups. Please aim to read on a regular basis with your child at home and to record any reading in the reading record provided. We ask all pupils to bring their book bag to school every day even if they haven’t finished their books. When your child is ready for a new reading book, they will need to place their book bag in the book changing area in class. We will be changing reading books on Mondays and Fridays.
TOPIC/CROSS-CURRICULAR HOMEWORK
During the school year your child might be assigned a project based piece of homework where they will have the opportunity to decide how they would like to present their work.
Year 3 and 4 pupils will be provided with login information for the following online learning platforms/websites:
Hwb
Pupils are able to access a wide range of digital tools via their Hwb login e.g. Google Classroom. Google Classroom is an online class page that we use to share classroom tasks and useful website/video/document links. Through their Hwb account, the pupils can also download Office 365 and Minecraft for Education for free.
Purple Mash
Purple Mash is a child-friendly online resource packed with fantastic activities that support and enhance all areas of the curriculum. We will regularly assign activities e.g. animation tasks to be completed in the classroom. The pupils are welcome to sign into Purple Mash at home to use the wide range of fantastic games and activities.

Mangahigh
Maths homework will be assigned on Mangahigh and each activity will link to the skills that have been developed in class. In the first term we will mainly be focusing on place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. As well as completing the assigned activities, your child can explore the interactive games that are available.

There are also many helpful Maths games available on Purple Mash and we regularly use a website called ‘Hit the Button’ to practise times tables, number bonds and doubling and halving.

TT Rockstars
We will assign specific times tables to practise on TTRockstars. Year 3 pupils will begin by looking at the 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times tables. Year 4 pupils will aim to move on to learning the 6, 7, 8 and 9 times tables. Times Tables Rock Stars is a fun and carefully sequenced programme of daily times tables practice.

Reading Eggs
Reading Eggs is an online resource that can help to boost reading skills in a fun and engaging way.
Seesaw
We will be using Seesaw to share weekly photo updates, important announcements and some examples of the fun activities that are taking place in our classes. Seesaw will also be a form of contact between teachers and parents/carers. Parents/carers that were connected last academic year, should be automatically connected for this academic year. If there are any issues then please contact reception through email and this will then be passed onto the relevant class teacher.
Helpful how-to guides for our online platforms are available here – https://www.ysgolcraigydon.cymru/online-learning/
School Dinners & Payment
The Government is now providing free school meals for ALL primary aged pupils. If you are on low income it is important for you to still make an application for Free School Meals for your children regardless of the universal provision because the Free School Meal Benefit eligibility makes other benefits available to you. You can apply online at Free School Meals in Conwy County Borough.
