Letter from the Headteacher March 17th

Dear Parents/Carers

 YSGOL CRAIG Y DON WORLD BOOK DAY – TODAY – the children all looked great today dressed up as their favourite book characters.

 URDD EISTEDDFOD, last Saturday 11th March – RESULTS. Many thanks to all the staff for their hard work over the last few weeks and for giving up their weekends/evenings to that the children can compete.  The school came second overall from all the schools that competed.  The results were as follows – and all those listed below will compete in the County Eisteddfod in Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy in Llanrwst on 1st April – full details to follow.

  URDD CROSS COUNTRY EVENT/TRAWSGWLAD years 3 to 6. The date for this event this year will be Thursday 27th April at the Faenol, Bangor – full details to follow (normally held after school).

 YEAR 6 TRIP TO CARDIFF NEXT WEEK: Please can parents ensure that they have returned the Health Forms (Form 4 and Cardiff Sleepover), thank you.

 YEAR 5 TRIP TO ABER FALLS/STEM in Venue Cymru: Please can any outstanding payment (£6) be sent to school urgently along with the consent slips, thank you.

 MANGA-HIGH SUCCESS: Good News – Ysgol Craig y Don won the Fai-To Challenge against Exminster Primary School recently and we came 19th place in the February Maths Games Challenge.  Well done everyone!

PTA OWN CLOTHES DAY we raised £240.60 towards the PTA fund last Friday – thank you!

 PTA MOTHERS DAY GIFTS – these will be available for children to buy next week on Monday 20th, Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd March.  They will be able to buy as follows –

Infants can purchase gifts at 3pm (Nursery mornings can bring money to school and choose during their morning session)

Juniors will be able to buy gifts during afternoon playtimes (2.10-2.25pm years 3 and 4 and 2.30 – 2.45pm years 5 and 6)

 RED NOSE DAY/COMIC RELIEF – Own Clothes Day (wear red) next Friday March 24th)There will be a prize for the most creative outfit.

 SCHOOL DINNER PRICE INCREASES after Easter Break: We have been informed that the price of school dinners will increase after the Easter break by five pence per meal. This means the cost of a school dinner for Infants will be £2.15 and Juniors £2.20 from 25th April onwards.

 GRAPES: If you are supplying your children with grapes for break or lunchtime, please can you ensure that they are cut lengthways, many thanks.

 AFTERSCHOOL FOOTBALL CLUB (with Steve Belmont). This will commence next Tuesday March 21th from 3.30 – 4.30pm  Open to all Juniors.  There is no charge for this club.

 NURSERY AND RECEPTION CLASSES SPONSORED SINGALONG – please can any outstanding sponsor money be handed in next week, thank you.

TEMPEST CLASS PHOTOGRAPHS – these will be taken on Monday 27th March.

 Years 2 to 6 NATIONAL NUMERACY and READING TESTS Reminder: This year’s statutory tests for pupils in years 2 to 6 will take place between Wednesday 3rd May and 10th May.  These tests are statutory, that is to say every child in the relevant year groups must sit them and they can only be administered during the official time period above.  Therefore, we do not expect any children in years 2 to 6 to be on holiday during the period from April 25th to 11th May.  The school will not authorise holidays taken by pupils during this eriod.

 PTA EASTER RAFFLE £1 a go – Raffle tickets will be sold around the classes in the mornings from Monday 27th March to Wednesday 5th April £1 a go.  There will be one prize for Infants and one prize for Juniors.

 URDD EISTEDDFOD 2nd round (Singing/Reciting/Musical competitions) – Saturday 1st April, Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy, Llanrwst.

 SCHOOL DATES

February half term – week commencing 20th February for one week, back 27th February.

Easter break – from Monday 10th April to Monday 24th April, children back to school Tuesday 25th April.

May half term – week commencing Monday 29th May, back to school on Monday 5th June.
