Letter from the Headteacher

Dear Parents/Carers                                                                                                   12 July 2019

SCHOOL SUMMER FAYRE: We raised a total of £1706.58 during the School Fayre yesterday which is fabulous. Year 2 raised the most (£101) with their stall and the pupils will get a treat next week!   Many many thanks to all the parents/carers and staff who gave up their time to help set up, run stalls and then tidy up – without them, the Fayre could not go ahead. Mr Owen also Braved the Shave for Macmillan Cancer Support – amount raised to be advised. Thank you everyone for your support.

CRAIG Y DON’S GOT TALENT: Congratulations to everybody who took part – all the performances were fantastic. The winners were – Tom Bird 1st prize (singing), Poppy Close 2nd (ballet) and Katie-May Belmont was 3rd (singing). Many thanks to Mr Owen who organised the event.

YEAR 2 MUSIC LESSONS: The school uses the Conwy Music Service who offer instrumental lessons to our Junior pupils. This year we have a limited amount of places which are being offered to current Year 2 pupils (to start their lessons in Year 3 in September 19). We can offer brass (3 spaces), violin (7 spaces), sax/flute/clarinet (4 spaces), harp (5 spaces), keyboard/piano (3 spaces), drums (1 space) and guitar lessons (3 spaces). This is limited to one instrument per pupil.   If interested, forms are available from the school office – please note that as lessons are limited, places are secured on a first come, first served basis from when forms are completed and returned to the office.

AFTERSCHOOL CLUBS NEXT WEEK

Please note the only After School Club being held next week is Netball on Monday and Cookery Club for Year 6 on Tuesday. Please remember there will be no After School Clubs for the first two weeks in September.

North Wales Urdd Athletics successes.

Extremely proud teachers, parents and grandparents witnessed the successes of Eva Spencer, Shea Pita, Emily Howson, Joshua Jones, Isabelle Rynn, Lucy Charlick and Molly Lundstram at Parc Eirias on the 25th June, when they represented Ysgol Craig y Don and the County of Conwy in the North Wales Urdd Athletics event.

Very high standards were seen throughout the evening in both track and field events. Our pupils did us all proud:-

Eva Spencer:- 1st in years 5 and 6 girls 100m race in both her heat and in the final and 5th in the long jump.

Shea Pita:- 2nd in the years 5 and 6 long jump.

Joshua Jones:- 3rd in the years 3 and 4 javelin throwing.

Emily Howson:- 1st in the years 3 and 4 girls 600m long race and 4th in the girls years 3 and 4 relay team.

Lucy Charlick:- 3rd in her heat and 6th in the final of the years 3 and 4 girls 75m race and 4th in the years 3 and 4 relay team.

Isabelle Rynn:- 5th in her years 3 and 4 girls 75m heat and 4th in the years 3 and 4 relay team.

Molly Lundstram:- 4th in the years 3 and 4 relay team.

Having achieved so many successes at the Area, County and North Wales levels this year, winning the trophy in the Area round and coming 2nd in the County, it is a delight to see how many young talented athletes we have here in Ysgol Craig y Don, and may it continue.

North Wales tennis tournament

Tom Bird, Flavio Cabras, Ioan Black and Max Wilmore competed in the North Wales event at Wrexham tennis centre on July 3rd in the year 6 boys competition, representing Ysgol Craig y Don and Conwy county. Very good rallies were played against quite tough opposition and the boys succeeded in gaining Bronze. Mrs Hughes wishes to thank Ioan’s Grandmother for helping with transport and supporting the boys on the day.

BEAUTIFUL SCHOOL GROUNDS: The children and staff have put a lot of effort into the school gardens – please have a look on twitter to see how much effort has been put into them! Diolch yn fawr!!!

Infants tea towels will be sold near the infant gate from 3pm and Junior tea towels will be sold near the front gate at 3:30pm.  Each tea towel costs £3.
