Letter from the Headteacher

Dear Parents/Carers

So here we are at the end of another school year. It’s been another busy one with our pupils excelling once again in many different activities. We are very proud of all that they have achieved.

This is an opportunity for me to thank you for all your support during the year. It is an opportunity for me also to thank the staff, especially Mrs Gelling and Mrs Lewis for leading the school in my absence. Their efforts were immensely appreciated and they ensured that the school continued to improve and develop the provision for the pupils. They really stepped up to the mark and handled the challenge incredibly well.

It has been a challenging year also for our admin staff who have had to deal with several changes to the way they work and deal with all the day to day tasks that frankly keep the ship afloat. You will have experience of the new Parentpay system introduced this year. The work involved in introducing and adopting such systems is huge and this is just one new development they have had to deal with this year amongst many. A huge thank you to Mrs Walsh and Mrs Thay.

Looking forward to September we shall be seeing some new faces joining our team here at Ysgol Craig y Don. Mr Huw Llewelyn Jones will be joining us as a teacher in year four and we will begin the almost impossible task of finding a replacement for Mrs Bethan Jones. We wish her all the very best for a long and happy retirement.

Some staff will be moving around the school. TAs working with different teachers, teachers teaching in different classes. I know that they will meet the challenges they face headlong and continue to provide a teaching and learning experience of the highest quality. I thank them all for their hard work and commitment to the pupils at the school.

All that remains is for me to wish you a very happy and enjoyable summer holiday and we’ll see you all again in September.

Hwyl fawr,

Iwan Lloyd Jones
