Letter from Headteacher

Dear Parents/Guardians                                             

STAFF TRAINING DAY REMINDER: Please remember there is no school this Monday 7th October as it is a Staff Training Day.

CAKE SALE – McMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT – we have now raised a total of £315.50. Many thanks for your kind donations and support.

ALDI SPORTS TOKENS REMINDER – we are still collecting these tokens and if we collect 300 we will be eligible for a free school sports kit. Thank you! Please ask family and friends to support us!

MUSIC LESSONS (Juniors): If your child receives Music Lessons, the amount payable has now been allocated to Parent Pay. You should also have received a letter today with details of the music lessons that your child is receiving.

TEMPEST PHOTOGRAPHS: Pupils should be bringing the proofs home from school today. Tempest have advised that our school will receive a higher rate of commission if orders are made on-line. Please bear this in mind when ordering. If you want to return the proofs to school however, please return them BY WEDNESDAY 16th OCTOBER at the latest.

PANTO 13th December (Reception to Year 6 pupils): These letters should have gone home to parents this week.   Please return the slips to school as soon as possible to let us know if your child/ren will be attending as we need to book the seats. Payment is required by Monday 21st October please (now available to pay on Parent Pay).

PTA UPDATE/EVENTS:

FILM NIGHT FOR YEARS 1 & 2 from 3.-4.30pm – this will be held on Thursday 17th October. The cost will be £2 per child which includes crisps and a drink. If you would like your child/ren to attend, please bring the money to school in an envelope clearly marked with your child’s name and class and hand to the Class Teacher ON THE DAY.

JUNIORS MONSTER BALL (Fancy Dress)–these will be held on Wednesday 23rd October as follows–

Years 3 & 4 from 4.30 – 5.30pm and

Years 5 & 6 from 5.45 – 6.45pm.

The cost is £2.50 per child which includes a drink (payable on the door please). There will be a tuck shop at the Ball and there will be prizes for the best dressed.

NEXT PTA MEETING: Please note the next meeting will be held on Monday 11th November at 3.30pm to discuss the Christmas Fayre.

JUNIORS AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS. Please ensure that children have PE kits with them on the day for sporting afterschool clubs. (No school on Monday 7th October)

Monday – Netball (Years 4 – 6) 3.30 – 4.15pm

Monday Dragon Sports (Tennis) – 3.30 – 4.15pm, Years 4 to 6. Leader – Mrs Merian Hughes, Year 4.

Monday Lunchtime Football 12.45-1.15pm Years 3 – 6 by invitation – children to see Mr Huw Llewelyn Jones if interested please. If your child is attending these sessions, please ensure they have appropriate clothing with them – sessions take place on the school field. Leader – Mr Huw Llywelyn Jones, Year 4. No session Monday 7th October due to Teacher Training day.

Tuesday Cookery Club 3.30 – 4.30pm – Year 6 – as advised in individual letters.

Wednesday Rugby 3.30 – 4.15pm, Years 3 – 6. Leader – Mr Huw Llywelyn Jones, Year 4

Wednesday TRI-GOLF 3.30 – 4.15pm, Years 3 – 6. Leader – Mrs Louise Davis-Owen, PPA Teacher

Wednesday Learning to Be sessions (Tuition services £10 per session, contact 07952 065735 as per instructions from them). Free taster sessions are available! Sessions finish at 5pm.

Thursday URDD After School Club, 3.30 – 4.15pm (Years 3 to 6). Please note that all children attending the Urdd Club MUST be members of the Urdd and membership this year can only be made on-line at www.urdd.cymru. Simply visit the website, click Join and follow the instructions remembering to include Ysgol Craig y Don in the appropriate section. Membership is £8 per child.

Friday lunchtime Chess Club for Years 3 to 6 – open invitation to all. Being held in Dosbarth Maelgwn Year 4 with Mr Llywelyn Jones.

Please also remember about the Ty Llywelyn Homework Club held which is held Mondays to Wednesdays from 4 – 5.30pm, Years 3 – 6.

DATES TO REMEMBER

Please remember there is no school for children on Monday 7th October – this is a staff training day.

Half term is being held week commencing 28th October. Last day in school is Friday 25th October and children will be back to school on Monday 4th November.
