Dear Parents/Guardians 27 September 2019
Bereavement: It is with the deepest sadness that we are informing you of the sudden loss of the daughter of a former teacher at our school . Many of you, who are former pupils of Ysgol Craig y Don, will remember Mrs Buddug Jones, who taught with us between 1985 and 1996. Buddug’s daughter, Delyth, was also a teacher, who taught at a local secondary school. As a school and a wider local community, we would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Buddug and her family and send our profoundest condolences.
Reading at home.
We would like to remind all parents and carers of the huge importance of listening to children reading at home. We encourage this right from the off-set, when children are learning to read in the early years, right up to the end of year 6. Sharing a book with a child is a considerably rewarding experience because so much can be learnt during this process. For example, not only will children be taught the pronunciation of new words and their meaning, but they will also be given more opportunities to discuss their books, focusing on characters, events and predicting outcomes. Also, these experiences will enable the children to have more opportunities for reading aloud, in order to improve their overall fluency. As a school we would really appreciate your support with this matter, since reading is such an important life skill. Also, please could you write comments in your child’s reading record on a regular basis so that a secure home-school link can be established and so that we can work together in supporting each child to achieve his/her full potential.
Also, if any parents are able to read Welsh books with their children at home, then please could you let the school know. Thank you very much.
