NORTH WALES WRU COMPETITION – YEAR 4 MAELGWN – runners up!!! We are proud to announce that Dosbarth Maelgwn are the runners up in the WRU North Wales Competition for Game Innovation based on the new curriculum. The students devised a new rugby based activity and created a multimedia presentation based on the development and execution of the game – our entry can be seen on our twitter account! The WRU have cordially invited the pupils from Dosbarth Maelgwn to their activity session in Stadiwm Zipworld next Friday and the pupils will be forming the Guard of Honour during the televised Wales/Scotland under 20’s match. Well done Dosbarth Maelgwn and Mr Huw Llewelyn Jones!!!
SPORTS RELIEF & RAISING FUNDS FOR SCHOOL SPORTS EQUIPMENT DAY next Friday 13th. The Year 6 Young Ambassadors have decided to have a “GET YOUR KIT ON” day next Friday 13th March and are asking that pupils wear a Sports Kit of any type or their PE clothes to school on that day for a small donation. Money raised will be divided between Sports Relief and raising funds for school sports equipment. Many thanks for your support.
WORLD BOOK DAY– the children really enjoyed dressing up as their favourite book character yesterday – please take a look on our twitter account to look at the fabulous outfits!
EISTEDDFOD CYLCH 14th March 2020 reminder: The first round of competitions will take place on Saturday 14th March in Ysgol y Creuddyn in Penrhyn Bay – further competition information is available from their website. If successful at the Cylch Eisteddfod, the next round at the Eisteddfod Sir will be held on Saturday 28th March in Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy, Llanrwst. Further information about times etc. for 14th March will be sent home on Monday.
PARENT GOVERNORS – we currently have two vacancies. If you are interested in being part of the school’s Governing Body, please contact the Clerk of Governors Mrs Walsh via the school office who can provide you with further information. If you would like an informal chat about being a Governor, please speak to Mr Iwan Jones or Mrs Elaine Gelling. Meetings are held a minimum of three times per year usually on a Monday at 6pm in school.
Flying Start – A Service for all Families in North Conwy Thursday 2nd April – Drop in sessions are being held at Ysgol Craig y Don on the first Thursday of the month from 9 – 10am in the portacabin. Flying start is a team of professionals covering Llandudno, Craig y Don and Penrhyn Bay. They offer information, group sessions, advice and 1:1 support to families in all aspects of family life. The next session is on Thursday April 2nd.
JUNIOR SWIMMING SESSIONS REMINDER – these sessions will be held daily from this Monday 9th March to Friday 20th March – swimming kits will be needed every day! Please return the reply slips urgently (if not done so already). Many thanks
DINNER MONEY ARREARS: Please can all parents ensure that any dinner money arrears are paid in full on Parent Pay. Many thanks to parents who pay their dinner money on time. For information we are still reviewing all outstanding dinner money debt and will be telephoning parents with outstanding balances (of over £10 per family) to discuss. NEW NURSERY CLASS STARTERS SEPTEMBER 2020 REMINDER: If you have a child who will be 3 years old by 31st August 2020, forms are now available to collect from the school office or they can be done on-line on www.conwy.gov.uk/admissions. Applications should have been done by 21st February. Thank you
AFTER SCHOOL CLUB UPDATE REMINDER: The Urdd Club is no longer held weekly, it will be held as follows –19th March, and 2nd April. All children attending must be members of the Urdd, please visit their website to complete an on-line application. Thank you.
PTA INTEREST FORMS – pupils will be bringing forms home today – please can you complete and return them as soon as possible – many many thanks.
PTA MOTHERS DAY GIFT SALE – Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th March. Junior pupils will be able to choose and buy wrapped gifts during afternoon break and gifts will be on sale to the Infants at 3pm on the school yard. £2.50 per wrapped gift.
PTA EASTER EGG HUNT – we are organising this event again this year, but it can only go ahead if we have further support from parents/friends of Craig y Don – we have so far had three offers of help but need a minimum of eight adults to help on the day please. The event will be held on THURSDAY 2nd April from 3pm for Infants and from 3.30pm for Juniors until approx. 4.15pm (not Wed 25th March as previously advised) – if you can help on the day, please e-mail or let Helen Thomas, Chair of the PTA know. MUSIC LESSONS – PAYMENT REMINDER: Music Lesson charges for this Term have now been added to Parent Pay accounts – if you have not yet paid, please do so urgently. Many thanks to those who have paid.
NATIONAL TESTS YEARS 2- 6: Arrangements for the Statutory Tests for Years 2 – 6 are slightly different in that the reading and numeracy tests will be done on-line and the reasoning test alone will be paper based. The window for the reasoning test is between 28th April and 5th May 2020 so please avoid taking holidays during this period. The on-line tests (reading and numeracy) do not need to be administered during this period, they will be done at some point before the summer holidays. If your child happens to be absent on one of the days, they can sit the on-line test on their return.

Monday Lunchtime Football WILL RESUME AT SOME POINT IN MARCH to allow time for the field to recover. Start-date will be advised. Normally held 12.45-1.15pm Years 3 – 6 by invitation – children to see Mr Huw Llewelyn Jones if interested please. If your child is attending these sessions, please ensure they have appropriate clothing with them – sessions take place on the school field. Leader – Mr Huw Llywelyn Jones, Year 4.
