Dear Parents/Carers
Please find below some information you may find useful.
After School Clubs (Football and Tennis, years 5 and 6) – Unfortunately, clubs will not commence before half term. The situation will be reviewed after February half term and we will be in contact with any information as soon as possible.
Teacher Training Dates – As you are already aware, The Welsh Government re-categorised the two Teacher Training days at the beginning of January to ‘Covid Planning’ days. The Teacher Training days have now been rearranged and we are able to share these dates with you. The school will be closed for pupils on the following dates; Friday 18th February 2022 and Tuesday 26th April 2022.
School Absences– May we ask that if your child is unwell, please do not send them to school. Attending school is so important for your child’s education but the current climate continues to prove challenging for us all when managing illnesses and absences. If your child is unwell, please email, text or call school before 9:30am. Also, please ensure you give a reason for absence so that we can update our registers accordingly. We appreciate your support with this.
Medication – If your child needs medication during the school day please ensure you do not send them with any medicine in their bag. Please could you contact the school office to arrange for an adult to visit school and administer the medication during lunch time. Thank you.
Nursery Intake September 2022 – if you, or someone you know, has a child who will be three by 31st August 2022, please complete an Application Form to start in our Nursery class in September 2022 by clicking on the following link Nursery applications will close on 18th February 2022. (We know the following link mentions Junior Yr3 but there is no need for anyone to complete a form for Year 3)
School Meals – please ensure that you pay for any meals in advance via Parent Pay. Free School Meals – if you feel your child/ren may be eligible for Free School Meals, please apply on-line via the Conwy County Borough website following this link (the application form is at the bottom of the page) –

School Entry Health Review – All Derbyn pupils (Penrhyn and Gogarth) have received School Entry Health Review Forms in brown envelopes from the School Nurses. Please can all parents/carers ensure they complete these ASAP and return to school. Many thanks.
Change to School Dinners on 17.2.22 – There will be a change to the dinner menu on Thursday 17th February. The options will be Beef Burger in a bun, or Quorn Burger in a bun with chips and veg, a cookie and juice in a box.
Getting back to normal
Will we ever? YES WE WILL!!
You may be aware, possibly because you have been the recipient of a Warn and Inform letter, that Covid is still with us. We have seen cases increase during the period after Christmas. However, it appears that the Omicron variant causes a fairly mild infection, and that is certainly good news.
We are still being told by the authority that we should aim to reduce contacts across the school as much as possible and we are treating the classes as individual contact groups. This is the reason why we have not, as yet, reinstated after school clubs nor have we started getting together in the hall for assemblies.
However, I am becoming increasingly aware that, as this pandemic continues and the control measures persist, we are becoming more and more distant from you as parents. It feels as though we are keeping the world beyond the school gate at arm’s length.
So, from Monday, when the junior gate opens at the end of the day, parents will be encouraged to come onto the yard to collect their children from outside the classroom door. Please respect social distancing rules and avoid disturbing lessons if they have not finished. Also, there will be no access allowed directly from the infants’ playground to the junior playground.
Hopefully, this will be a small step in reducing the distance between us.
