Letter from Headteacher 24th November 2020

Dear Parents/Carers

Christmas Jumper/Christmas Clothes Day

This Friday, November 27th, is Christmas Jumper/Christmas clothes day! During this most challenging of years we are keen to support local charities who are helping people in our own community. Therefore, we are asking for donations towards the Hope Restored Food Bank in West Shore, Llandudno who provide food parcels for vulnerable people. They help those who have been discharged recently from hospital whilst support services are put in place for them. They also provide parcels for those who find themselves homeless for various reasons and others who find themselves in need.

If you want to support Hope Restored to continue to provide this service, then you can send in canned goods and other non-perishable food items to school this Friday. Please, no frozen goods or chilled items.

I would like to thank Cherie Jones, one of our parents, who brought Hope Restored to our attention. Cherie has an amazing Christmas Lights display on her house at 87, Maes Clyd where you will also find a shopping trolley where you can make contributions to the Hope Restored Food Bank.

Parking outside school

We have received several requests from neighbours to remind people about parking cars at the beginning and the end of the school day. Please, park responsibly and according to the rules and laws laid down in the Highway Code. Here are links to further information:

The speed limit of 20mph and the road markings on the carriageway outside school along with the general rules regarding parking at junctions, double parking, parking on pavements and in front of private properties are there to keep everyone safe, especially at this time of year when visibility is reduced due to the weather and lack of light. There are ample parking spaces to be found away from the school. Again, please park responsibly.

 Light at the end of a long, dark tunnel.

I heard recently that the two greatest contributions to world health were clean water and vaccines. Vaccines have helped eradicate several of the world’s deadliest diseases and have made others easily controllable.

In the last fortnight, three different organisations released the results of their Covid-19 vaccine research. BioNtech, Moderna and Oxford University all announced that their vaccines were highly effective against infection with the Covid-19 vaccine. This is fantastic news, and means that there is now light at the end of this long, dark tunnel. Normality will return, but it won’t happen overnight. We still have to remain vigilant and continue to take extra care. We continue to review our risk assessment and the measures we have put on place such as reducing contacts between different groups of pupils and extra cleaning are ongoing. Our behaviours are key. We must all remember the mantra;

Hands             Space             Face

I am sure that we would all want to avoid a scenario like this one in Ceredigion:

Covid: Thirteen Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire schools close – BBC News

I would like to thank you all again for your patience and understanding during what is a challenging and difficult time. The vaccine may not be here in time to ensure Christmas is the same as we are used to, but it is looking more and more likely that things will return to some kind of normality in the spring. Here’s hoping!

TEAMS FOR U CHARITY APPEAL (FILLED SHOEBOXES) – REMINDER. This appeal is still going ahead, however, this year we are not able to collect boxes in school but you can still take part. If you would like to fill a shoebox as a Christmas gift for disadvantaged children, please e-mail school requesting a leaflet or download a form from their website. Filled boxes can then be taken by you direct to Grand Prix Express at Swan Road, Mochdre Business Park, Colwyn Bay, Conwy. They have a section of their warehouse available to Teams For U. The deadline for this is the 9th of December (the earlier the better though)

Contacting school – just a reminder that parents/carers should please contact us via e-mail with reasons for absences and general queries.  Please only phone the school if urgent. Thank you for your continued co-operation.

Yours sincerely
