GALA NOFIO/SWIMMING GALA URDD

All the very best to Shay T, Erin H-L, Milly C and Joseph A from Years 5 and 6 who will be representing Ysgol Craig y Don and the Conwy County in the Urdd Primary schools National Swimming Gala at Cardiff International pool this Saturday 21st January. What an achievement and experience for them! Pob lwc!

 PTA MEETING & EVENTS – all details on website Calendar

Following the PTA meeting on Wednesday, these events have been arranged.

YEARS 1, 2 and 3 FILM NIGHT. Next Tuesday 24th January, from 3 – 4.30pm. Cost is £2 per child to include crisps and a drink.

YEARS 4, 5 and 6 FILM NIGHT. Next Wednesday 25th January from 3.30 – 5.15pm. Cost is £2.50 per child to include hot dog and a drink. Please let reception know if you can help on the day.

DIWRNOD SANTES DWYNWEN CARD COMPETITIONthis is the Welsh equivalent to Valentines day and is held on Wednesday 25th January. To celebrate this, the PTA have organised a Santes Dwynwen Card Competitionentries need to be brought to school by Wednesday 25th January please and will be judged on Thursday 26th January. There will be a prize for each year group throughout the school.

JUNIORS VALENTINES DISCOs WEDNESDAY 15th FEBRUARY. These will be held as follows – the cost is £2 each plus children will need money for the tuck shop.

Years 3 & 4 Valentine Disco from 5 – 6pm

Years 5 & 6 Valentine Disco from 6.15 – 7.15pm

 NEXT PTA MEETING will be held on Wednesday 1st March at 3.30pm – all welcome. If you are not able to attend the meetings but would like to help at events, please let school Reception know so that you can be added to the PTA’s contact group.

PTA NO SCHOOL UNIFORM DAY – Friday 10th March, suggested donation £1 per child please. Donations to go towards PTA funds.

PTA EASTER RAFFLE £1 a go – Raffle tickets will be sold around the classes in the mornings from Monday 27th March to Friday 6th April £1 a go. There will be one prize for Infants and one prize for Juniors.

 PTA MOTHERS DAY GIFTS – these will be available for children to buy again this year on Monday 20th, Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd March. They will be able to buy as follows –

Infants can purchase gifts at 3pm (Nursery mornings can bring money to school and choose during their morning session)

Juniors will be able to buy gifts during afternoon playtimes (2.10-2.25pm years 3 and 4 and 2.30 – 2.45pm years 5 and 6)

 SCHOOL EVENTS – all on website Calendar

CHINESE NEW YEAR LUNCH / CHANGE TO SCHOOL DINNER MENU – Monday 30th January – to celebrate Chinese New Year, the menu will be as follows – Chinese Chicken Curry with vegetable rice or noodles, drink and a cookie.

ST DAVID’S DAY COFFEE MORNING/Non-Uniform WELSH COSTUME/COLOUR – WEDNESDAY 1st March 9.30 – 11am – All Welcome. A coffee morning will be held on Wednesday 1st March and will be an opportunity for parents/carers to see some of the children perform their Urdd pieces. We would be very grateful for cake donations on the day please. The School Council will decide how the proceeds of the Coffee Morning will be spent.

Children are also welcome to dress in welsh national costume/colours on this day.

 ST DAVID’S DAY CELEBRATORY LUNCH Thursday 2nd March. This is an opportunity for those children who do not normally have a school dinner to try one. If you would like your child to have a meal, please bring an envelope to school marked with your child’s name, class and St David’s Day lunch by Tuesday 14th February. Thank you.

 YSGOL CRAIG Y DON WORLD BOOK DAY – FRIDAY 17th MARCH. Children are welcome to dress up as a book character.

 Years 2 to 6 NATIONAL NUMERACY and READING TESTS Reminder: This year’s statutory tests for pupils in years 2 to 6 will take place between Wednesday 3rd May and 10th May.  These tests are statutory, that is to say every child in the relevant year groups must sit them and they can only be administered during the official time period above.  Therefore, we do not expect any children in years 2 to 6 to be on holiday during the period from April 25th to 11th May.  The school will not authorise holidays taken by pupils during this period.  For further information about the national tests, visit the Welsh Government’s Learning Wales Website at www.learning.gov.wales

AFTERSCHOOL CLUBSupdated information on Afterschool Clubs follows –

MONDAY – SCHOOL CHOIR PRACTICE 3.30 – 4.15 – letters given to relevant pupils

WEDNESDAY – TRI-GOLF, 3.30 – 4.15pm YEARS 4 & 5 – will start 25th January

 URDD Reminder

If any pupils wish to compete in the Eisteddfod activities and in forthcoming events such as the Area Sports, the member is £8.50 and MUST BE RECEIVED BEFORE 31st January.

 SCHOOL DATES

February half term – week commencing 20th February for one week, back 27th February.

Easter break – from Monday 10th April to Monday 24th April, back to school Tuesday 25th April.
